S16 Slurry Ice System
Trial 4 – Monitoring of fish temperatures in boxes containing both liquid-ice and flake ice. Temperature checks were taken from fish stored in both liquid-ice and flake ice at regular intervals. Both boxes sampled were from the same fishing operation. A thermocouple was placed into the fillet of a fish and the fish was placed in the middle of a box. The same procedure was used for each box. Normal practice in the fishroom included a thick layer of flake ice at the bottom of each box. After 1 basket of fish (approx 30kg) was packed into the box a layer of liquid ice was applied. The layer was left standing for approximately 60 seconds, letting the liquid-ice solidify, before the box was completely filled, with liquid-ice applied to the top of the box. The same practice was used for boxes containing only flake ice. Species: Small Haddock
